Neuro Art: Drawing Yourself Back into the Moment
Neuro art is a mindful, intuitive art practice that uses repetition, pattern, and freeform drawing to calm the nervous system and quiet mental noise. Instead of focusing on what something should look like, you focus on the movement of your hand, the feel of the materials, and the rhythm of creating. Originally, Neurographic art (or Neurographica) was invented by Russian psychologist and architect Pavel Piskarev, who created the technique in 2014 as a method to transform stress and negative emotions into art, using principles from neuropsychology, analytical psychology, and Gestalt therapy. Since then, it has been expanded and modified into various branches and styles. How It Works When you draw repetitive shapes and lines, your brain shifts from high-alert (thinking mode) to a slower, more relaxed rhythm. This can help: • Lower stress hormones • Boost dopamine and endorphins • Improve focus and mood • Promote self-expression without judgment or self-consciousness • Build the habit of presence Come and join Beth in a NeuroArt session with your own group or business or join a workshop near you |
